Kate's Baptism
On Sunday, a few friends and family members joined us to witness and celebrate Kate's baptism. It was very important to Dan and I that Kate be baptized like Ellie, and it was a great reminder to us as parents of our commitment to teach our children to know and love God. Thank you to all of you who were able to be there to share our special day and we greatly missed those of you who couldn't make it.
Kate wore the same dress that Ellie wore...purchased by Dan's grandmother for all her granddaughters and great-granddaughters to wear. She also wore the same gold cross that Ellie wore when she was baptized.

My Favorite Recent Pictures
Everyday, someone tells me their opinion of who Ellie and/or Kate look like. It's hilarious because each person offers their estimation with such conviction: "Oh my word! Ellie/Kate is Dan's/Your double!" The funny thing is, no one agrees! Half of our friends and family think one way and half the other. It's funny because I can't help but join in. At least once a day, I try to figure out which one looks more like Dan or me. I have always thought that Ellie is Dan's double and Kate is a spitting image of me as a baby. As of late though, I realize Ellie actually has my ears, nose, neck, face shape and hair. So why do I still think she looks just like Dan? And both girls have Dan's beaming smile for sure. Either way, my girls are SO beautiful! They are such smiley little darlings and have so much twinkle in their eyes! Dan, we are VERY blessed!
Ellie Marie and Kate Elizabeth...you are so much fun and so beautiful. You never let me sleep but I enjoy you so much. I love watching you grow and change daily and I can't wait until every tomorrow when you share yet another first with me. Mommy loves you!

Great Wolf Lodge
This weekend, we took the girls on a mini-vacation to Great Wolf Lodge. We were fortunate enough to go with our very good friends and neighbors, The Bartlett Family. Great Wolf Lodge is unbelievable! The kids (and adults) had a blast. I really enjoyed taking a break from the "responsible mommy" role and I got to play as much as everyone else! I knew Ellie would be well behaved because she was totally in her element but I wasn't sure about Kate. The water park was loud and chaotic and our activities didn't leave room for her nap schedule. Much to my surprise, she was AWESOME! She missed all of her naps and only caught a few 40 minute cat naps in the stroller but she smiled and laughed the whole way through. She has such a good disposition! Anyway, we really enjoyed ourselves and have already made plans to return. Enjoy the pictures!
Ellie got to pick a souvenir in the gift shop. I thought she would pick a stuffed animal or something. Nope. This was her choice. Well, at least she has good taste!
Here is Ellie, right after we told her where we were going:
Waiting in the lobby with Owen and Ivy
Mommy and Ellie on our way to the lily pads
Dan and his baby girls
So fun to see the girls having fun together!
All the kiddos in their jammies
Great Wolf Lodge has the best ice cream (and fudge, chocolates, cookies, etc)!
Sisterly love

Goodnight Moon
If someone would have told me 4 years ago that bedtime would be the single-most frustrating situation in parenting, I wouldn't have believed them. Surely, a poopy diaper disaster with no change of clothes, a tantrum in the mall at Christmastime, or a middle-of-the-night vomitous mess, that would be worse. But, alas, I have come to realize that, yes, bedtime is the most cursed time of the day. As I type this post, Ellie is upstairs screaming the following:
"You are a MEAN mommy!"
"I'm not going to live here anymore!"
"Fine. I'm not going to sleep tonight. EVER!"
"Mommy I'm scared! Don't leave me! I don't like the shadows!"
"MOOOOOOMMMMMMMYYYYYYYY!"
Ugh. I hate bedtime. I remember when Ellie was first born, Dan and I started the bedtime ritual of reading Goodnight Moon to her every night before bed. Sure enough, she would be asleep before we could say goodnight to the mush. "Goodnight room. Goodnight moon." So simple. So effortless. So quiet and peaceful. That was all. Just say goodnight and you have it. A GOOD night. I should have known from the pictures of mittens warming by a fire in the baby's nursery that this concept was from another time and another place. Definitely NOT the reality I find myself in today.
"MMMMOOOOOOMMMMMYYYYYY!"
"You are not a nice mommy!"
"Ahhhhh! Don't leave me Mommmmmmmmmmyyyyyy!"
Ugh. Ellie refuses to go to sleep without us laying with her. Then she wakes up in the middle of the night and comes into our bed. OK, the obvious solution is to keep walking her back to her bed. But when your husband works at night and you are getting up every few hours to feed a baby, waking up and walking your preschooler back to her bed, OVER AND OVER AGAIN seems physically impossible. Add to that the crying, screaming, and pleading(hers not mine) that naturally accompanies these middle-of-the-night charades, and you now also have a newborn awake and crying at the same time.
I am torn between the guilt of being the "mean mommy" who walks her rosy-cheeked, messy-haired, footsies-wearing baby girl back to her dark (GASP!) scary room and the deep deep desire I have to actually sleep at night without desperately trying to wrestle a small corner of the sheet for myself only to then get kicked in the back the remaining hours of the night.
So here I sit. Day two of my pledge to teach Ellie to sleep by herself. Last night she came into our bed so many times that she wore me out before I wore her out. I actually do not remember her coming in the last time and thus, I woke with her feet kicking my back and her butt crowding Dan out of the bed this morning. Still, I have resolve. I need my bed back. I need my sleep back. I need a good night.
A part of me is still hopeful that by simply saying the words, I will have it. So before bed, I quietly whisper, "Goodnight moon. Goodnight room. GOOD NIGHT please come soon!"
