Who They Are Today

I always write about time moving too quickly.  It seems everything is in fast forward when you have kids!  I thought, for the sake of remembering our kids at this age/stage in life, it might be fun to take a snapshot of "Who they are today."

So we will start with the oldest, Ellie.

This is Ellie today.

Ellie is really into anything crafty.  She loves to use her creativity and make all kinds of things out of whatever I have lying around.  She makes books, jewelry, leprechaun traps, scrapbooks, hats, dollhouses, pictures and anything else she can think of.  She loves loom bands and is dying for me to teach her to sew (Note:  I do not sew.  This is a problem.)  She also loves earth science.  She wants a bug playground "desperately" and any other earth science kit she sees at the craft/book stores.

Ellie is also very interested in sports.  Her love for gymnastics ebbs and flows (currently it is "AWESOME!") but she is totally on fire for soccer.  She can't wait for spring soccer to begin!

Around the house, we hear Ellie singing "Let it Go!" from the movie Frozen (her current favorite) or "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen.  Taylor Swift is still her favorite singer and her songs are also popular around here.  Ellie loves the shows Good Luck Charlie and Henry the Hugglemonster. She is very good at making Tommy laugh and loves to play school with Kate.

Ellie is in first grade this year.  This means she loves to read Junie B. Jones and play on the monkey bars.  She has a crush on a boy in her class who is a Broncos fan so she likes to tease him a lot about the Seahawks kicking their butts in the Superbowl!  She has reached the age when boys and girls play "chase" at recess because they like each other.  I asked her what happens when a boy catches her and she replied, "I don't know.  They haven't caught me yet!"

Ellie is accommodating, respectful and empathetic and very forgiving. She is always poised and handles most situations with a grace and maturity unusual for girls her age.  She is very much "a little lady"!  She is also silly and always up for anything and because of that she is so much fun to be around.  Tommy and Kate adore her and she is always happy to share her time and space with them.

Next is our baby girl, Kate.  This is Kate today:

Kate loves to be home.  She loves to snuggle and read, watch TV, cook with Mommy, and play with her family.  Her favorite shows are Max and Ruby, Calliou, and Sofia the First.  Kate loves to play with her baby dolls and typically monopolizes the couch with all her dolls.  She loves to have tea parties and play dress up. Like her big sister, she loves to sing "Call Me Maybe" and anything else she knows the words to.  She loves to be silly and make up words.  Kate is a lot of fun but she has a LOT of rules.  She doesn't like when others sing at the same time as her.  She only lets Mommy help her with most things.  She likes to have cereal first thing in the morning but she has to have more than one kind mixed together.  She doesn't like anyone in her personal space except Mommy.  She doesn't like short sleeves when she is tired.  She has to sleep in footies.  She has to have the door closed when she sleeps.  She will eat carrots but only raw and only with ranch.  Her shoes are ALWAYS on the wrong feet but she insists that they stay that way. She will race but only when SHE says go (which is usually after she is already halfway to the finish line).  She does not wear 3/4 sleeves or empire waists. She will wear dress shoes but only with socks.  The list goes on and on.  It is a full time job just keeping track of all of Kate's particulars!

Kate is also extremely affectionate.  She loves her back tickled.  She loves hugs and snuggles.  She would rather get cuddles than go anywhere or do anything.  She is constantly offering hugs and kisses to her family and is very protective of all of us.  She is our love bug!

Kate is very independent.  She loves to play by herself and rarely does what the group is doing.  I love this about her!  She is quiet, smart and extremely shy and makes others earn her trust. Only a few people get to know Kate really well but when they do they can't help but love her silly humor, her adorable expressions, and her stubborn will.

Kate's favorites these days are Color Wonder, riding her scooter or bike, reading and playing with her baby dolls.  She also loves going to the park and singing.  What I love about Kate is that she knows who she is and what she wants.  She is a fiercely independent thinker who is tough as nails on the outside but sweet and sensitive on the inside.

Last is Tommy, our baby boy!

This is Tommy today:

Tommy is VERY energetic.  Like off the charts!  He is a mover.  He loves to run and climb and play catch.  He climbs and stands on everything that he shouldn't.  He can get around any obstacle meant to slow him down.  He loves our dog Jaxie.  Tommy is always smiling.  He is the happiest little guy!  He loves to laugh at laughing and especially loves laughing with his sisters.  He wakes up happy and so excited about the day but goes right to sleep for nap and bedtime.

Most of the time, Tommy is getting into something.  He loves to run away but only thinks it's fun if someone comes looking for him.  He loves to point out lights but when he says "Light!" its always a whisper.  Just like big sister Kate, he likes his back tickled and is very affectionate.  He LOVES LOVES LOVES music and will dance on demand.  He is learning to recognize and enjoy Mickey Mouse.  His favorite books are Moo Baa La La La, Chugga Chugga Choo Choo, Llama Llama Zippity Zoom, How Big is Elmo?, Trucks Go, and Peek A Who? He loves to read and be read to.  When he wants me to read to him, he hands me a book and then wiggles himself into my lap.  He makes me read every book twice.

Something I love about Tommy is that no matter what time it is or where we are, if I turn on music and hold him, he will lay his head on my shoulder and stay that way as long as I sing and dance to the music.  I get a lot of snuggles this way!  What a cuddler!

Tommy does not like cheese or eggs but he loves applesauce, apples and bananas, yogurt, pretzels, cereal bars, soup, meat, steamed veggies, and cereal of any kind.  He likes to take apart his sandwiches before eating them and feeds the dog more than he eats.  He has stinky toes but I love them.  He looks really handsome in green and makes people smile everywhere he goes.  He is exceptionally coordinated and very bright.  I can't wait to see this little guy grow up!

I feel so blessed to be Mommy to these three little loves.  They are bright, funny, sweet and beautiful and they add so much life to my world.  I'm a lucky one!
